How To Cleanse Your Colon

Secrets to Colon Cleansing

So, you're convinced you want to start eating better and go on a colon cleanse. "Now what?" You think. "Where do I start?" "What should I buy or not buy?" Good questions all.

Colon cleansing is not as problematic or as difficult as you may think. What it does require though is patience, discipline and a plan.

Edmund Burke, the 18th century politican, said something profound that all should commit to heart. He said, "Our patience will accomplish more than our force." I believe he was right.

So, how do you rapidly cleanse your colon? Here's the short answer:

  1. Eat only high-fiber foods like grains, vegetables and fruits
  2. Change your diet: eliminate non-fiber foods like meat and processed foods
  3. Buy a safe, certified colon cleansing product
  4. Utilize safe medicinal herbs to facilitate your colon cleanse. I know of a powerhouse drink you can make yourself with two herbs found in your local health food store. I've taken this drink many, many times and on my honor folks it works
  5. Exercise

Eat Only High-Fiber Foods Like Grains, Vegetables and Fruits

I personally have had great experiences with #1. If you combine all four of the steps, it is a sure-fire formula for a gradual, safe and healthy colon cleansing experience.

The fruits and vegetables you eat should be raw and uncooked (steamed is second choice, raw if first choice). This will do two things: 1) it will give you the necessary nutrition you need and 2) it will provide an avalanche of fiber to your intestinal tract that will gradually build up to a tipping point.

The enzymes in raw vegetables, fruit and grains are "alive" and are vital to your health and the fiber in the aforementioned foods will sweep clean your intestinal tract. Vegetables, fruits and grains are nutrient dense and are perfectly designed for the human organism.

Colon Cleansing

You might remember I mentioned a moment ago about a "tipping point." A tipping point is reached when you defecate five or more times in one day. Your intestines will be mostly cleared and your stomach region will be surprisingly soft.

You will also notice a very tangible weight loss as well for many literally carry around as much as 30 to 40 pounds of fecal matter in their intestines, although that is extreme, but five to 15 is not uncommon at all.

You will lose weight along the way too but if you keep with it, you will notice a significant weight loss. Your love handles will be smaller (if you have them, of course!) and your stomach won't protrude the way it used to.

There's another important point to mention here: The older you are, the more likely it is that you have a significant build up of mucoid plaque. This mucoid plaque can literally be as hard as tire rubber! This mucoid plaque has become encrusted on the walls, which leads to smaller and smaller girth of excrement passed during normal bowel movements.

So, yes, #1 works and it works very well. Fruits and vegetables are nature's way of helping give you the nutrition you need while providing the fiber your intestinal tract requires to keep it clean and functioning properly.

Buy a Safe, Certified Colon Cleansing Product

What about cleansing your colon with colon cleansing products? Do they work? Yes and no. No, some are not as effective as others but give some results. Yes, some work and work very well. I've tried almost all of the products on the market at one time or another and can give an unbiased, honest review, which you will find in time on this site.

My recommendations for a safe colon cleaner product are the following:

  • Ideally, the product should be produced in a GMP-compliant facility (GMP is an acronym for "good manufacturing process". This is a requirement for manufacturers of foods and medications (including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology products, and active pharmaceutical ingredients) so as to assure that the products manufactured are of the required high-standard quality. You'll also hear now the term cGMP, which is used in the United States and refers to "current Good Manufacturing Practice"
  • The product should have some of the herbs listed here: psyllium seed or husks, cascara sagrada, slippery elm bark, flax seed, burdock root, hyssop and fennel seed (this is not a comprehensive list). Psyllium seed and cascara sagrada are especially potent
    • Cascara sagrada is very powerful and is one of nature's most powerful laxatives. Trust me! I know about this one very well!!! Medical science knows about it too for it has been the principal ingredient in many commercial, over-the-counter laxatives in American and Canadian pharmacies.
  • The manufacturer/business should be in good standing with the Better Business Bureau
  • The formula of the colon cleaning product should be formulated by certified naturopathic doctors and/or medicinal herbalists and medical doctors. Naturopathic doctors, contrary to popular opinion, are as well trained as medical doctors in most cases. If a medical doctor hasn't consulted on the creation of the colon cleansing formulation, it is not a fatal flaw, in my opinion
  • The company should have a good, verifiable track record. The more legitimate a company is, the longer it is in business
  • A good, safe colon cleansing product should stimulate a significant movement in 24 hours or less
  • The product should be affordable
  • The product should be non-addictive

A colon cleansing product is often times necessary for the older you are (30 or over) the more buildup you have of old fecal matter taxing your colon and intestinal tract. Younger people can just step #1 to great effectiveness but for those older, that might not be enough. That is why, I believe, colon cleaner products have become so popular and rightly so.

Utilize Safe, Medicinal Herbs

A Colon Cleansing Secret Revealed

Medicinal herbs are amazing. They can cure literally every malady if administered properly by a trained, experienced medicinal herbalist or naturopathic doctor.

Colon Cleansing

There are two herbs you can buy at your local health food store that go wonderfully together: slippery elm bark and psyllium husks. (It's sometimes called psyllium seed. A psyllium husk powder picture is on the left while slippery elm is on the right.)

Here is how you use them. Add a heaping tablespoon of slippery elm bark and a heaping tablespoon of psyllium husks as well. Then, pour in enough juice to cover the herbs. Next, mix the concoction thoroughly.

It will get gradually thicker, which is what you want. Add in enough juice to fill the 8-ounce glass halfway and stir again until the mucilagnous drink gets thicker. Lastly, pour enough juice to fill up the glass.

It will be very thick and chunky. Cut some of the chunks with your spoon per your liking and drink. The drink's lack of taste (it will taste bland) will be nicely masked by the fruit juice. I personally prefer grape juice for this drink but you're free to try the one that appeals to you.

I should also warn you that this concoction is not pleasant to drink. The chunkiness is, well, unpleasant. It also looks unpleasant.

But it works very well. The psyllium and slippery elm combination form a very potent evacuating drink. It holds significantly more than its weight and attracts fecal matter as it courses through your system.

On my honor, this drink works great, but it's not pleasant to drink. You have to "gear" up for it. It's also inexpensive. Herbs in general are very cheaply obtained and they don't have side effects pharmaceutical drugs do.

The Main Challenges of Colon Cleansing

Be advised my friend a colon cleanse is possible for you. Not that it will be easy. Far from it. There will be challenges along the way, I assure you. "What challenges?" You ask?

The main challenges of colon cleaning lies not only in the physical changes but the psychological battle as well. From experience, I can tell you this: if you eat only raw vegetables and fruits, you will experience powerful Colon Cleansingcravings. The cravings's intensity can be astonishing!

You could crave cooked food, sweets, and salt-based foods or all. That is why it is imperative to balance the change in diet from 100% cooked or 95% cooked or processed to all raw. Shoot for a maximum of 1/3 of your food being steamed or cooked. The more raw, the better.

I wouldn't go 100% raw for not only will you start experiencing powerful cravings but you'll also start eliminating a lot of build-up mucus in your system and that could cause a whole host of cleansing symptoms like nausea, dizziness, flu-like symptoms, fatigue, headaches, constant urinating and of course intense cravings.

Continuing, the more fiber you can get in your system, the faster your cleanse will go. The better you eat during your colon cleanse, the faster it will go for you as well. Your diet is the key to a colon cleanse...and balance and your attitude.

Colon cleanse supplement products can work really well but if you are still eating lots of fried foods, processed foods, junk foods and lots of meat and cheese, it will not be anywhere near as effective. You will be short changing the results you might have gotten.

You also might get a lot of gas. This is inconvenient, but normal.

Socially, it might be challenging as well. In modern-day society, food and drink are often epicenters for sociality in business as well as in one's private life.

Be prepared with an answer as to why you're not eating the lobster, steak and cheese cake. From experience, I can tell you the more you're prepared with an answer, the less tempted you'll be to indulge and go off of your cleansing diet.

In closing on this point, be advised that there will be times when possibly it will require old fashioned discipline. People don't like to hear that today as we live in such a "fast-food" culture. People want instant results in everything and that is a counter-productive attitude.

We spend years, decades even polluting our systems and expect to totally cleanse it in five days of eating "rabbit food."

Side Effects of Colon Cleansing

While lessened toxity is a benefit of colon cleansing, the hawkers of various colon cleaner products usually fail to address the very real side effects of colon cleansing.

Here are some of the side effects of colon cleansing you may (or may not) experience:

  • Increased flatulence
  • Cravings for better tasting food
    • Cravings for saltly, sweet and cooked food
  • Irritability
  • Constant bathroom visits
  • Nausea
  • Flu-like symptoms, i.e., runny nose, aches, fatigue, etc.
  • Headaches

These are the ones that are most commonly reported. I've never heard of anything really serious, but it isn't a bad idea to talk to your doctor before going on a colon cleanse program. His or her concern might be any drug interactions taking place. The possibility of this is very remote.

Still, it could be a valid concern. So, talk to your doctor.
